Botulinum toxin is a protein that is naturally produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum; it is the main ingredient of relaxing agents. When injected into a muscle, it relaxes it, decreasing the contractions that cause wrinkles. Results become visible within a few days and in general last three to four months.

Aesthetic indications

When injected into a muscle, it relaxes it, decreasing the contractions that cause wrinkles. Neuromodulators are often used in the upper face to smooth forehead lines, lift the brows, and soften crow’s feet lines around the eyes. In the lower face, it can slim the jawline or attenuate neck bands.

Medical indications

Relaxing agents can also be useful in the treatment of temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction. When injected into the masseter and/or temporalis muscle, neuromodulators weaken the muscles of mastication and reduce clenching and grinding, reducing pain and preventing dental damage.

This treatment is covered by many private insurance plans.

Excessive sweating

Neuromodulators can also be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Dr Thibaudeau offers this treatment for the face, underarm area and décolleté.
